Worm Composting Systems

What is different about these hybrid worm composting bins? They are in the ground! Question is: why?

  • You get to take advantage of the earth’s ground temperature, which rests around 55 degrees, so the worms stay cooler in the summer and are warmer in the winter than an above ground system.
  • You can better control the carbon that your compost pile produces. When used correctly, you do not have to turn the compost. When turning and mixing compost, some of the rich carbon created escapes into the air.
  • You can produce finished compost all year round!

Composting system for a family of six.

A system of 4 is the recommended minimum number, so that you have one into which you actively add food scraps, one that is going through the composting process, one that stores finished compost, and one that is ready to receive new food scraps.
